Bathroom Mirrors – Beyond Functionality

June 30th, 2010

In a bathroom, the centrepiece for some would be the bathroom mirrors. They can be not only great functional pieces, but are also, if used correctly, great design pieces. Not only is a good mirror a great design piece in itself, but the way it redistributes the light can greatly enhance a bathroom space.

With this latter point in mind, you should install bathroom mirrors with an awareness of the light intake capability – for example, a large mirror above a sink not only has practical implications, but will also help to capture light from an opposing window. This will greatly enhance the light intake in a bathroom, so whereas it may be counterintuitive to put a large mirror in a small bathroom, it may be just what you need to enhance the spatial impact in a small space.

Also, bathroom mirror cabinets, unlike plain bathroom cabinets, will all also add an extra dimension to a bathroom space, as well as optimizing the practicality of your bathroom.

You might want to complement your bathroom mirrors with some dedicated lighting, perhaps around your main bathroom mirror, which will really set the mirror off during nocturnal hours. Whilst this optimizes functionality, it also creates a striking aesthetic effect, which will really set off your bathroom space.

So, where do find the perfect bathroom mirror at the perfect price? Well, with a huge selection of high quality mirrors, at bathroom2u, you’re sure to find the perfect bathroom mirror at an affordable price.

Accessories are the Key to Good Bathroom Decor

June 28th, 2010

Whilst there are many ways to optimize a bathroom space – from changing the bathroom fittings to installing a wetroom – one of the most effective is surely to install a few well picked out accessories. This will not only add a whole new dimension to a bathroom space, but will greatly enhance utility, too.

In many households, towels and bath robes are often left strewn all around the house, and therefore correct management of these kinds of items is not just a matter of practicality, but has visual implications also. Therefore, the functional bathroom should endeavour to solve this problem.  With some well placed bathroom fittings - such as bath robe holders - keeping your household free of rogue towels and robes has never been simpler.

Whilst towel holders and bathrobe holders have an obvious practical function, they can also add a visual dimension to a bathroom space; for example, chrome fittings, such as chrome bathroom taps, will really elevate a bathroom space, with a minimum of cost.

Of course, bathroom towel and robe holders are just the beginning. Other accessories that you can incorporate into a bathroom, to great effect, include bins and even toilet seats. If chosen astutely, these items can really make a positive impact to a bathroom space.

So, if you want to install some bathroom accessories and inject some real quality into a space, with minimal cost, then visit Bathroom2u – we’ll answer all your bathroom accessory needs.

Getting Clever with Bathroom Lighting

June 26th, 2010

For many people, the best bathrooms to have are the ones that best catch the light; however, as confined spaces, creating a well-lit bathroom space can be a challenge – with this in mind, what are the best ways to light a bathroom?

One of the simplest, and most affordable, ways to manage the light in a bathroom is to utilise some well placed bathroom mirrors, this could mean a single large mirror above the sink. On the other hand, you could get more creative, and host some small mirrors on your window ledge. Whatever you choose to do, you will have to make sure that it matches the decor, and complements, rather and overwhelms, the other elements.

Of course, if you really want your bathroom to shine, then you’ll need some light sources. And, despite bathrooms being traditionally confined spaces, there are plenty of ways to do this. For example, you could install some modern, stylish spot bathroom lighting, which will act both as an effective light source, and an ultra-modern design feature in their own right.

For bathrooms on the smaller side, it is especially important that as much light is “taken in” as possible, and therefore as a broad rule: smaller bathrooms will benefit from lighter colours, such as white bathroom taps etc.

Where can you find all these lighting solutions? At Bathrooms2u, there is a wide range of bathroom lighting options, as well as mirrors and bathroom accessories – essentially everything that you need to create that well-lit bathroom space.

June 24th, 2010

Once in a while, home decor requires “upgrading,” and there is no reason why this should be limited to the bigger rooms in a house. Whilst you might not immediately think of a bathroom when it comes to redecorating, as one of the most visited rooms in the house, it deserves consideration, love and care.

Mirrors

One of the most affordable ways to completely revitalize a bathroom space is to invest in some decent mirrors; bathroom mirrors are not just bathroom accessories, but they perform a particular function, i.e. redistributing light, and making bathrooms feel “roomier”

Bathroom Taps

You might not want to commit to a complete overhaul of your bathroom space, but there are some relatively simple steps you can take to really optimize the space.  For example, you could try replacing your old bathrooms taps with some brand new chrome fittings, which will immediately revitalize the room.

Which is better: a Wetroom or a Shower?

June 22nd, 2010

Perhaps more than any other room, functionality takes precedence in a bathroom space. However, this doesn’t mean that a bathroom precludes good design; with this in mind, installing a wetroom could not only be a great practical decision, but also has aesthetic implications. So, for function and design, which is better:  a shower or a wetroom?

Of course, everybody’s taste is different, and wetrooms will not necessarily complement all kinds of decor. However, if you really want to make a truly modern and minimalist bathroom space, then you can’t get much better that a wetroom.

However, this does not mean that electric showers are not fit for purpose – they are. And they are still much more ubiquitous that wetrooms; perhaps this is due to their relatively easy installation (when compared to wetrooms), or simply because homeowners have not yet had time to change over to a wetroom.

So, why would you go to the extra effort and cost of installing a wetroom? Well, wetrooms aren’t just design pieces. Instead, they also offer a variety of functional advantages: most notably, they offer an increased level of convenience, as there is no need to clamber into a bath or shower, which can be particularly precarious for the impaired, who risk slipping. This extra feeling of safety would be a major attraction to many potential customers.

So, in conclusion, whether showers or wetrooms are better is really a matter of taste, and will depend on various factors, such as any pre-existing health conditions and budget.

Choosing the Right Colour for your Bathroom Suite

June 20th, 2010

Like any room in the home, the most obvious way to reinvent bathroom decor is to change the colour scheme. However, as bathrooms are often confined spaces, this means that colours that will work are often limited. Of course, this doesn’t mean that one can’t be creative with bathroom colour.

Single Colour Schemes

Modern bathrooms often benefit from a restrained colour scheme. With this in mind, white toilet seats and white bathroom suites are often best put to use without any opposing colours – for example, if you have a modern bathroom, such as a wetroom, you might benefit from all-black bathroom taps.

Multi-Colour Schemes

However, whilst a retrained colour scheme might be perfect for your particular bathroom space, this is far from being a universal rule – and often some colours can really shine when in opposition with other – for example, most commonly, white toilet seats might combine with black bathroom taps to create an effect that is highly stylized, whilst not being too overt.

Chrome

When it comes to bathroom colour, your options aren’t just limited to the old colours like black and white – and instead if you really want to create an effective space, then you might consider using chrome (chrome taps or accessories), which will compliment both modern and traditional spaces.

At Bathroom2u, we have a wide range of fantastic products, including chrome, which means that you are never more than a few clicks away from your ideal bathroom accessories and fittings.

What Makes a Modern Bathroom?

June 19th, 2010

Whilst there are many ways in which to optimize the aesthetics of a bathroom space, a bathroom should essentially be a functional space – and often this means installing modern appliances, such as electric showers. However, just because something has modern functionality, doesn’t mean that it needs to compromise on aesthetics. Some of the most stylish bathrooms are also the most functional.

One of the easiest ways to inject some style into a bathroom space is to replace all of those old fittings. As more bespoke fittings - such as chrome bathroom accessories - will undoubtedly add a bit of modern sophistication to any bathroom, small or large.

If you really want to push the boat out, you might also install a wetroom. Wetrooms are not only practical solutions (making a bathroom space optimised for convenience), but they are also this season’s must-have accessory. They are also a great way to reinvent a tired bathroom space into a vibrant, ultra-modern area.

Admittedly, installing a wetroom is a significant commitment for any homeowner, and with this in mind, there are plenty of less dramatic ways to reinvent a bathroom space. For example, if you have an old shower, you could easily and affordably replace it, with an ultra-modern power shower.

Whether its shower valves or shower doors, Bathroom2u has everything you need to transform a bathroom space into an area of the home that is not just functional, but highly stylish too

Chrome: Making Bathrooms Shine

June 16th, 2010

Decorating a bathroom can be one of the most daunting of all DIY jobs. Unlike other rooms, it is less obvious what works and what doesn’t. Bathroom spaces often capture the light more than other rooms, and therefore decorating in such a way which compliments light intake can also be an issue. However, there are some tried and tested ways to elevate a bathroom space – but surely one of the best is to utilise some chrome in your designs.

Of the many ways to use chrome, one of the most effective is to incorporate some chrome bathroom fittings, i.e. your bathroom taps, shower fittings etc. They will all be revitalized by using chrome – as, unlike cheaper-looking white fittings (for example), chrome bathroom fittings will not only show less dirt, but will also help to redistribute the light.

You could also install some chrome bathroom accessories uk, which, unlike replacing the bathroom fittings, can be done with minimal effort; with this in mind, you might opt for a chrome bin or  a chrome robe holder, which is a simple and affordable way to inject a touch of chrome glamour into a bathroom space.

Wetrooms and Wellbeing

June 15th, 2010

A wetroom is a thoroughly modern idea, and is a great way to inject a little minimalism into a home. However, it’s not all about aesthetics, and wetrooms will have several positive effects on health and wellbeing – making them a great idea for a variety of pre-existing health conditions.

For those who find it difficult to get in and out of showers or baths, then wetrooms are the ideal solution – as getting into your wetroom is as simple as entering your bathroom. The freedom of movement that a wetroom will afford the householder, makes them especially suited for sufferers of movement impairing conditions – such as arthritis.

Of course, wetrooms aren’t just suitable for specific conditions, and can provide therapy to all kinds of people. In particular, the elderly who may naturally suffer aches and pains, will be able to shower without the inconvenience of having to get into a shower or bath – which will also reduce the risk of slippage, which is a major cause of injury in older people.

Whilst there are some definite health benefits with a wetroom, they are not just the preserve of vulnerable or impaired individuals. They are a truly contemporary design feature in themselves – and a great way to transform a bathroom space into a thoroughly modern area.

So, if you want a wetroom, you’ll want to go to the right place.  At Bathrooms2u, we’ve got all this and more – whether you’re looking to completely reinvent your bathroom with a wetroom installation, or just want to optimize any existing space with a few affordable accessories.
